Three Cups

the Three Cups drawing, I focused on drawing with good mechanics such as spacing and composition. I drew a simple, unornamented drawing to be sure I could focus on drawing technique. I could improve on drawing cleaner lines, as well as keeping balance in my drawing by making sure the objects are more evenly spaced from the sides of the paper. Although I believe I did well with the scale of the drawing as well as keeping the height of the bases proportionate. I chose to orient the paper in length-wise because the drawing was wider than it was tall.

Line Quality Drawing

For my line quality drawing, I focused on varying the thickness of my lines to show value. Value is important because it adds realism and depth to the picture. I utilized thicker lines on the edges of my shapes to stress that the light source was coming from the front of the paper, and used white spaces to show the reflected light shining directly onto the objects.

Still Life Drawing

For my Still Life Drawing, I did my best to employ all the techniques we have learned so far. Overall, I think I improved my composition from my previous drawing, keeping a balanced composition and keeping the subject matter evenly spaced and centered. Additionally, I did well utilizing height of the bases to make clear where the objects were arranged on the table, and translating that to my paper. I think I could improve on blending my shadows to make my values look more crisp and realistic. Additionally, I could have done better on finding a more accurate value for the reflected light, particularly on the cup as well as the sunglasses, as those were two very reflective surfaces.

Single Point Perspective Drawing

For my single point perspective drawing, I focused o drawing all my vertical lines to one point in order to give the illusion of depth. I used a ruler to draw nearly all of my lines to make sure they were completely accurate and true to the idea of one point perspective, and to convey the idea that you are standing at the end of an alleyway looking through to the other side. I think I did a very good job with my perspective, however, I think I could have done a better job using a full range of values to reinforce depth in the drawing.

Self Portrait

For my self portrait drawing, I did my best to take my time and focus on the unique shapes of my features. I think I improved on using a fuller range of values for this drawing, and paying more attention to places that small shadows are cast such as under the eyes and chin. I could have used some darker values for my portrait, as well as fading out some of the harsh lines I drew.

2 Point Perspective Drawing

For my 2 point perspective drawing, I used to vanishing points instead of one to give the illusion of perspective. This was slightly more difficult than one point perspective because I had to determine which vanishing point to draw the lines to based on their position. I think I did a good job nonetheless and also improved in using a full range of values in comparison to my first perspective drawing, where my values were too light. I think I could improve slightly on line quality, especially in this picture where there is a big difference in distance between the objects.

White Charcoal Drawing

For my white charcoal drawing, I focused mainly on pressing my pencil harder to make sure i could get the fullest range of values out of the white as well as the black charcoal pencils. I found it was easier to pull out the values with being able to use the pencils. One thing I think I could have done better was paying closer attention to my grid, as the form of the skull loses shape at some points and doesn't look quite as realistic. Overall, however, I am very proud of my use of white charcoal to create a realistic depiction of a skull.
